Welcome to WRIT101!

Greetings, class! Welcome to WRIT101,Spring Semester at the University of Montana. This is a great class, as it is a course that is highly dependent on YOU. You get to choose any and everything you want to write about (within the assignment's boundaries, of course..:) This semester, we'll inquire into the idea of sustainability as it pertains to you and I, what we write, how we write and why we write. A theme of our class will also be, "Writing as a Social Activity". I'm so looking forward to meeting all of you and creating our own classroom community. I hope this blog will provide a space for classroom introduction and community, as well as commentary and sharing of our writing and material. Again, welcome to class. Here's to a great semester of writing!

  1. For our blog introduction, please comment on this first post by; 1.) Posting a picture of yourself (or create a blogspot profile and follow this blog), 2.) Introduce yourself - where you're from and what you plan to study, 3.) You're favorite piece of writing - and what your own personal relationship to writing is.
    Example:

Hi! My name is Jenny Harris, I'm a second-year graduate student in English Teaching. I graduate this May and head back into the 'real world'... I'm from Missoula, MT, although have lived a few places. My relationship with writing is one of love, hate, struggle and triumph - writing has taken me to many places, as close as the Bitterroot Valley, to as far away as Italy and Africa. I just can't seem to escape writing, so my goal is to keep trying everyday to be the writer I want to be. (Whatever that means....:)In any case, I'm excited about this class!

  2. Hi my name is Megan Sutherland, I'm a freshman here at the University of Montana. Im studying human biology. I'm grew up in Moses Lake, Washington but was born in San Jose, California. I've never been much of a writer, so my relationship with it is somewhat uncomfortable. I have improved over the years however, and am looking forward to improving even more from this class.

  3. Hello! I'm Kortney James and I was born and raised in the small town of Sandpoint, Idaho. I am a freshman here at the University of Montana and currently studying human biology...for now. I am not a fan of writing, and it has always been a struggle for me. Whenever I do write I generally get frustrated and find it hard to put my thoughts into words. With this class I hope to become a more confident writer and improve on all of my skills.

  5. Hey! My name is Kayla Reno and I was born in Washington and have lived there my whole life! I am a freshman here at the University of Montana and play on the volleyball team here with two others from our class, Kortney and Megan. I plan on majoring in communications. However, I love to write, always have and that is why I wanted to take this class. I feel like I can express myself through writing and love to write about almost anything, just not research papers :) I am looking forward to this class!

  6. Hi! My name is Jacy Suenram and I was born and raised in Dillon, MT. I am a freshman at the University of Montana and I am studying Biology but I am probably going to change in the future. My writing skills are not the greatest. I have a hard time coming up with ideas and it takes me forever to actually finish what I am working on. I am not one of those people that can write for days! I am looking forward to improving on my writing skills and learning new tips to make me an efficient writer.

  8. Hey! My name is Emily Kay. I was born in Libby, Montana, but my family moved to my current home in Plymouth, Minnesota when I was just two weeks old. I'm a freshman studying elementary education, but I may possibly be switching my major to psychology. Writing has always been one of my best subjects (along with reading...math and science are definitely NOT my strong suits), and I've always been able to express myself better through writing. I hope that I can discover new ways to express myself, and just keep improving my skills in this class!

  9. Hey my name is Josh Mueller. I was born in San Diego, CA and then live in Kalispell, MT as well as Twin Falls, ID and now here in Missoula, MT for 9 years. I am a freshman and I hope to double major in Business Management and Marketing. Ahh, what can I say about writing? I have never been a fan of it. It's as simple as that. I've never had that niche for writing probably because in Montana, the curriculum in writing seems to be pretty lacking compared to other states. Hopefully my skills can improve throughout this class! Excited to meet everyone!
    Peace Out Missoula

  11. Hey! I'm Lorin Robertson, and I'm from a town called Edmonds, in Washington. I am a Wildlife Bio major. I absolutely love to write, and I've always been a pretty strong writer. I've always tried to get into the higher English classes in high school just for reading and writing. I hope to continue to improve on the problems I still have with writing so I can make my papers sound better :)

  12. Hi my name is Brianne Poor! I am a freshman at the University of Montana. I was born in Eureka, California but have spent most of my life growing up in Fairfield, Montana. I am majoring in Exercise Science with the hopes of becoming a physical therapist. I would like to then specialize in working with pediatric patients. Writing has been something I struggle with. I am hoping that this class helps boost my writing confidence and also makes writing fun and enjoyable! :)

  13. Hi, my name is Ellie Steinbach. I was born and raised in a small neighborhood in Southwest Portland, Oregon called Multnomah Village. I'm a freshman studying both Organismal Biology and Spanish. My hope is to one day become a vet--a Spanish speaking vet, if you will.

My favorite piece of writing is a book that I grew up reading with my dad, Where The Red Fern Grows. I enjoy writing, although, it has always been more of a personal experience between me and my journals. Writing papers is something that comes easily for me, it's the idea of what to write about that I find challenging. So, I guess you could say I have a love-hate relationship with writing. I hope that someday I will be more comfortable with sharing my writing, perhaps this comfort will come over the course of this class.
